Item: Air travel ground to a halt yesterday in Southern California, when a 3½-hour communication failure forced as many as 800 Southland-bound commercial flights to be diverted Tuesday afternoon. LAX went silent for several hours as planes were grounded and passengers forced to sit and wait.

Kudos to NBC's marketing department; this by far was their biggest marketing stunt of the year.
