Forget Mario Bros.; That New Conan Backdrop Also Looks Familiar Because of This

Last week, the folks at Serious Lunch gagged that the "Tonight Show" backdrop seen when Conan O'Brien gives his opening monologue looked a lot like the design from Super Mario Bros. (above).

It was all a joke... but it did remind me that that backdrop looked awfully familiar.

And then it hit me. Although the design is very different, it still reminds me of the similarly blue backdrop that existed behind Arsenio Hall back when he did his monologue. Compare the two;



Not quite the same thing, although enough of a similarity that it made me notice...
