The DWP Lights Up the Holidays

The 14th Annual Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Griffith Park Light Festival kicks off Friday night, and continues through Dec. 30.

Here's the good news: Vehicles are now banned from the route for the first two weeks, meaning you can walk the length of the light display from Dec. 4 to Dec. 17 without breathing in exhaust fumes.

Walking the DWP Light Festival is the way to go, anyway. Seeing in by car is a slow and frustrating experience -- you're spending hours in your vehicle, waiting to slowly motor past what are, well, pretty average light displays.

But if you must go by car, vehicles are allowed from Dec. 18 to Dec. 30.

The Light Festival actually kicks off on Dec. 3 with a special preview "Bike Night." Other special events include a "Family Fun Mini Fair," taking place Dec. 11, 12 and 13, and (once vehicles are allowed Dec. 13) a shuttle bus service.

The DWP Light Festival takes place nightly from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
