LA Ad Town: Union Station as Santa's Garage

Ad Town

Thanks to Friend of Franklin Avenue Will Campbell, who caught this spot for Mercedes Benz the other night: "During a Modern Family commercial break what to my wondering eyes should appear but a completely cleared out Union Station main terminal masquerading as Santa's garage during a Mercedes Benz holiday spot."

Maria and I caught that spot as well, and were trying to figure out how they pulled this off. We assumed it was a computer-generated use of Union Station's main terminal -- but is there a chance they moved out everything to shoot this ad? (I'm guessing no... but still, quite an cool use of the Union Station look as Santa's garage.)

My guess is no, too. With today's computer graphics technology my bet is it would be far easier and cheaper to digitally scrub the space clean than it would be to move everything out and back in.

agreed. plus, the only room that has those large arched windows on both sides is the old ticket concourse and moving the 115 foot ticket counter is not a viable option. it was there last weekend.

Yup, saw them filming this in the ticket concourse just a couple of weeks ago. No time for pics tho, I had a train to catch.
