Retro Friday: Best TV Guide Commercial Ever



Among all the TV Guide Magazine commercials -- and there were plenty over the years -- this reigns as one of (if not THE) best. Don't you wish S.K.U.M. and "Screamin' at the Top of Our Lungs" was a real thing? Here's another version of the commercial:

Of course I paid special attention to the listings pages that are shown very briefly at the end of both. The first one shows the New York Metropolitan edition channels (black 4, white 30); the second one is apparently the Philadelphia edition, but with the colors reversed (white 6, black 7 instead of the correct black 6, white 7).

Although really, both appear to be mockups, since the channel bullets and the print don't look quite right.

There's something odd about the binding as well, since it looks stapled -- and this was more than 10 years into the bound digest era.

Whoever did the voiceover sounds awfully a lot like the same guy who does those "Imported from Detroit" Chrysler commercials today. Wonder if it's the same fella?
