On today's edition of KCRW's Hollywood Breakdown, Matt Belloni and I discuss the Emmys' confusing category conundrum:
HBO's True Detective sure seems like a miniseries, but it's competing in the Emmy category for best drama. Most people don't consider Orange Is The New Black and Shameless comedies, but that's where they're nominated. Which Emmy category a show places itself in isn't necessarily where it most belongs, but where it's most likely to win. The Golden Globes recently placed new category rules in place to prevent this kind of political maneuvering. We'll see if the Emmys follow suite in the following years.
