Spotted: Last-Chance Video Cassette Sale

Saw this in the bargain bin of a Duane Reade store in New York. Never has the term "Last Chance sale" been more apt. This is truly your last chance at buying a blank video cassette, period.

Shag Off

LA mag chronicles the falling out between groovadelic artist Shag and gallery owner Billy Shire -- once Shag's biggest booster.

The falling out happened when Shag (real name: Josh Agle) jumped to a rival Culver City gallery, the mag's Chris Nichols writes.

As a result, this Saturday, Shire's Billy Shire Fine Arts is cleaning house, selling off his Shag merchandise once and for all:

Shire has been exhibiting the works he once described as “modswingingsixtiesratpackagogoloungelizardwatusiwarriors” since 1996 and has long been one of Shag’s biggest supporters. The owner of La Luz de Jesus gallery even wrote the introduction to Shag: The Art of Josh Agle. “It was always,” says Shire, “a handshake deal.”

When the artist decamped for a competing Culver City gallery, Shag said it was “like breaking up with a long time girlfriend” but hoped his relationship with Shire could remain amicable.

Uh, apparently not.

One More Chance to Own a Piece of the Ambassador

So two years ago I wrote a post putting this up for sale... and then dropped the ball (and perhaps, more honestly, had second thoughts about parting with it).

But now, with Baby Blogger 2.0 on the way, it's time to make some room in our tiny Franklin Avenue HQ. And that means I gotta truly get rid of the large table I bought at the Ambassador Hotel auction in September 2005.

I also don't have the time to restore the marble, which is pretty badly scratched up in places. (Above, that's the table top, resting on its side. Not shown: The table's wooden legs, which I have stored elsewhere in my garage.)

Therefore, as much as I hate to give up a little slice of history, I'm offering the table up for sale -- for the same price I bought it for at the auction ($50). The table comes with a certificate of authentication as well.

The catch: The damn thing's heavy. (It's marble, after all.) So you've got to be here in Southern California and willing to come pick it up.

One-Stop Shopping for Light Sabre Holders and More

North Hollywood-based prop house History for Hire is throwing a big sale this Saturday, as at least 50 below-the-line crew members and vendors look to make a few bucks in this tough economy by selling some Hollywood memorabilia.

The prop house is promising bargain prices on all sorts of things, including crew jackets, wardrobe, collectables, artwork, animation items, projectors, Aloha shirts, director's chairs, old Sears catalogs... and even "light sabre holders."

Event takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the History for Hire parking lot, 7149 Fair Avenue in North Hollywood.

Here it is, the entertainment unit I always wanted, and finally bought two years ago: Perfect size; straight lines; modern look; real wood (no pressed wood here!); rich, deep brown color; doors for the TV; glass doors for your DVD, VCR, TiVo, cable box and stereo; drawers for your DVDs, etc. Better yet, make this your official gaming station.

The unit is only two years old, but we're downsizing and have got to (sadly) let it go. We originally bought this unit two years ago for more than $700, but we're now asking for just $200. We're taking a big loss just to move it out soon.



What's more, we'll throw the 32" TV in for just $50 more.
