Looks like KROQ management isn't too pleased with morning team Kevin and Bean right now. The top-rated duo, along with sidekick Ralph Garman, called France president Jacque Chirac's office this morning. Ralph was impersonating Jerry Lewis, and the guys thought it would be funny to see how anyone over there reacted. Turns out Ralph does a good Jerry Lewis, and it worked a little too well. Ralph-as-Jerry Lewis actually got through to Chirac! They had an eight minute, stilted conversation on the phone with the French leader.
Apparently, KROQ and Infinity lawyers weren't happy. Insiders at the station say Kevin and Bean have been muzzled from mentioning the bit on air again, let alone be allowed to play it.
Of course, it was hard to confirm Wednesday whether this was real, or a staged bit. Kevin and Bean, in a well-known early 1990s stunt, ran a segment called "Confess Your Crime," and included a caller who claimed he accidentally killed his girlfriend. The call received widespread attention, including a segment on "Unsolved Mysteries," until the duo later admitted that it was a hoax. They were briefly suspended and forced to apologize on air.
Insiders, however, swear up and down that the KROQ-Chirac bit was true, and from the sound of it, it does seem to be. Don Barrett, who runs the LARadio.com website, promises to write more on his page tomorrow. Stay tuned!
