Pink Slip
Cash in your Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf now -- the chain has discontinued its punch card program (pink for coffee drinks, green for tea and brown for coffee bags).
According to the 'Bean, the pink card and its cousins were halted on Aug. 25 "due to an increase in fraudulent use and counterfeiting of our paper punch card program... We are working on alternative programs to reward your business and loyalty and will introduce them soon."
That may include a new credit-card style Pink card, which serves both as a gift card and a rewards card. It's currently being tested only in San Francisco.
Meanwhile, you better empty that frayed paper-based pink card from your wallet now. Coffee Bean stores will still punch existing cards -- and honor filled-up cards (12 punches = 1 free drink) until Oct. 16. Drink up.
