The Whole World Is Watching

After a summer in which TV news mostly embarrassed itself (obssessing over missing white women in Aruba and dropping the ball on several D.C. scandals), the broadcast and cable networks are redeeming themselves this week.

Particularly in the last day or two, the news nets are doing a stellar job getting the word out on what's happening in New Orleans. They're actually asking tough questions for a change. They're expressing their frustrations. And showing both anger and sadness at the ineptness of the government in failing to save the people left behind.

The site Crooks and Liars has posted several fantastic clips:

First up, Shepard Smith and Geraldo Rivera, all is forgiven. Both reporters, on the ground in New Orleans, refused to sugarcoat what's going on down there -- with Shep even getting testy with Sean Hannity, and a frustrated Geraldo breaking down in tears. Check out the fantastic clip here.

Meanwhile, Ted Koppel demands answers from FEMA's Michael Brown, who claims he didn't know starving people were stuck at the Convention Center -- despite days of media coverage. Koppel smacks him down in here.

Also, in this clip Anderson Cooper calls bullshit on robotic Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) who refuses to show an ounce of emotion, preferring to thank fellow politicians for their support instead.
