Falling Star

Struggling radio station Star 98.7 (KYSR-FM) has tweaked its sound again, adding the slogan "Today's Music Alternative" and returning to its late 1990s focus as a home for current, but lighter, modern rock sounds. (Call it KROQ Lite, or KROQ for Women). The 80s stuff is still there, but in smaller doses.

The station is also going jock-free this week, which means (thankfully) no more "Jamie, Jack and Stench Show." Actually, with Jamie White out on maternity leave, it's still uncertain whether that show will return -- or if it does, whether it will still be in that form. Keep your fingers crossed it just goes away altogether.

From the station press release:
The new slogan highlights the recent resurgence of pop alternative music from new artists like James Blunt, Natasha Bedingfield and Daniel Powter, as well as established artists like Green Day, Nickelback and Train. Additionally, the station will offer a dramatically increased level of interactivity, providing listeners multiple opportunities to provide ongoing feedback on programming, artists, personalities and pop culture. For example, the station conducted a unique on-air music search this past Sunday that allowed listeners to vote for songs they want to hear on the radio. The results of the music search will be reflected in the station's playlist beginning today."
