Famished for Famima

The sleek Japanese convenience store Famima!! (the exclamation theirs), which has been quickly rolling out its first batch of U.S. locations right here in Southern California, is about to make an appearance in Franklin Avenue's neck of the woods.

Atwater Village Newbie first spread the word that a location in Glendale was imminent; I decided to call Famima's local Torrance HQ to get the skinny. According to the receptionist, the store will be opening up at 134 N. Brand (close to the Mervyns/In-N-Out/Borders Books intersection) in the near future.

Famima just opened a branch in Pasadena; it also has stores in Torrance, Santa Monica, Westwood and West Hollywood. Plan is to have 30 locations by the end of 2006... and 250 by 2009. Sounds like alot... until you realize that Famima already boasts almost 6,000 shops in Japan and more than 2,500 in Korea.
