The Hot Stays Hot and the Cool Stays Cool

Oh YouTube, you are the best thing to hit the web since... well, Blogger, I suppose. You may vaguely remember this ad from 1985, when McDonald's introduced the McDLT sandwich.

You probably don't remember, however, that it was Jason Alexander (with a full head of hair!) leading the musical tribute... and you probably don't remember just how cheesy the ad was. Now, the only way you could get away with doing this ad is if it were tongue-in-cheek -- and the funny thing is, to parody it you really wouldn't change a thing!

I was 12 when the McDLT came out... and as a impressionable kid, thought the technology of the McDLT was the coolest thing. (In hindsight, it was a complete fraud -- the styrofoam package still sat under the heating lamp, wilting the lettuce.) I was sad to see McDonald's drop it a year or two later -- but the fast food joint was phasing out those horrible environmentally messy containers, and it just didn't make sense to keep the sandwich.

But all these years later, I still remember that damn jingle. And now, thanks to YouTube, it's in my head again.

(Thanks to Joe for the head's up.)
