Grab Your Kids and Head Downtown This Saturday

Lots of cool stuff going on in downtown this weekend, particularly if you have a young child in tow:

:: The Grand Central Market is throwing its "Christmas for the Kids" festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Kids under 15 can get a free photo with Santa and will receive a goodie bag with toys and candy. The festival will also include music and, of course, food.

I can't vouch for the festival, having never gone... but I loves me some Grand Central Market, so that's reason enough to head there on Satuday.

:: Pershing Square's annual Downtown on Ice skating rink is great on its own (and yes, I'm partial to it, having asked Maria to marry me on the rink). Now, add a Winter Holiday Festival this weekend, and there's even more reason to lace up.

This weekend's festival, held 11 a.m. through 7 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, will include a snow zone -- yup, tons of man-made snow for the kids who have never had a reason to see the powery stuff. Also, the event promises crafts, performers, puppet shows, two stages, a tree decorating contest and more. (Skating, by the way, is held 10 a.m. to 10 p.n.

:: Head down to the Disney Concert Hall on Saturday, Dec. 9 for two family-oriented 60 minute matinee concert:

The Chorale works its wonders in 60 minute concerts, featuring arrangements of favorite carols, songs of the season from around the world and sing-alongs with fun stuff, surprises and the Voices Within Children’s Chorus. Santa will also make an appearance.
