KCRW Shortens Pledge Drive, Promises Fewer Intrusions

New KCRW general manager Jennifer Ferro (above) has already found a way to ingratiate herself with the public radio station's audience: Pare back the August pledge drive.

KCRW has cut two days from the usual ten-day drive, reducing it to just an eight-day event: Aug. 9 to 17. The station also promises to cut down on those difficult-to-listen pledge breaks -- which would mean more music or news, depending on the time of day.

"Frankly, we're nervous," Ferro wrote in a letter to subscribers. "We don't know if this will work. We do know that we want to limit interruptions to the great programming you rely on, and that alone makes it worth the risk."

I can definitely get behind that. August, by the way, is the month that we usually pledge to KCRW. Read my guide to how to make the most out of your pledge (i.e., getting the best premium possible).
