Scenes from the Foothills

"The Derby"

After a recent visit to Pomona and the Fairplex, we decided to explore the foothills via Old Route 66 (also Foothill and Huntington during different stages). We were treated to some interesting architecture, old signs and obscure businesses. Among the suburbs we passed through: Arcadia, Monrovia, Duarte, Glendora and LaVerne. Here are a few more highlights.

Azusa Auditorium

Azusa Foothill Drive-In Theatre.

Opened in 1961, closed in 2001. According to Cinema Treasures, the Azusa Foothill was the last remaining drive-in on Route 66 west of Oklahoma.

Golden Spur.

20th Century Motor Lodge.

Compromise Line Road.

Why "compromise"? Read the lengthy, lengthy history of the street name here.
