Radio Stars No More

The most annoying show in English-lingo Los Angeles morning drive, KYSR-FM (Star 98.7)'s "Jamie, Jack and Stench," is history.

The trio were supposed to return to the airwaves this Monday, Jan. 8. But now they won't. And this time it's for good.

Co-host Jack Heine wrote on his MySpace blog yesterday:

We found out today that we will not return to the air on January 8th... We will not return to Star at all. It's very sad to know that I will no longer share my mornings with my best friends ( You guys, jamie, Stench, Monica and everyone else there that has endured our torture). So far '07 is not ruling!

As you may remember, Star 98.7 pulled the show from the air last April. After a drumbeat of support, "Jamie, Jack and Stench" returned in May.

More recently, the show made news when KFI's morning host, Bill Handel, stormed into the Star 98.7 studios and started screaming at Jamie White, letting rip a few obscenities live on air in the process. (Apparently White had scolded Handel's kids, who had barged into the Star studios. KFI is located in the same Clear Channel complex as Star.)

Handel was given a week's suspension.

"Jamie, Jack and Stench" debuted in July 2005, when Danny Bonaduce was dumped from what was then called the "Jamie and Danny" show. Heine, who was then the show's board operator, and Mike "Stench" Roberts (who station brass tried unsuccessfully to rename "Stretch"), the show's producer, were upped to co-host status with Jamie White.

White had been with Star 98.7 since 1998, when she and former co-hosts Frosty Stilwell and Frank Kramer were brought in from Denver (where their "Jamie, Frosty and Frank" show had aired since 1992). Stilwell and Kramer were canned in 2000 (when Bonaduce was brought in); the duo now host the midday show (with Heidi Hamilton) on 97.1 KLSX "Free FM."
