Living in Los Angeles adds an extra dimension to watching many movies and TV shows, as you can't help but play location scout. It can actually get distracting, as two different parts of town appear in the same scene. For example, in Nicholas Cage's recent movie Adaptation, Cage's character is seen at the complex at Sunset and Crescent Heights where the Virgin Megastore, Laemmle Sunset Five, Crunch and Burke Williams are located. His character then hops in his car and leaves the complex-- but he's shown driving out of the Kaiser Permanente hospital right here in Los Feliz. Huh? Most of America won't notice, but us Angelenos know bad continuity!

And don't even get me started on the first season of Fox's "24," which showed characters driving from Century City to Burbank in literally five minutes. Uh-uh. Ain't going to happen.

Now, Maria and I went to go see Old School this weekend at the Arclight Theater on Sunset. Funny movie, even though it seems to fall apart at the end (and much of the story seems to have been accidentally left on the cutting room floor). But I was distracted at the very beginning of the movie, when Luke Wilson's character is at the airport, trying to fly home. As I watched, I noticed something: That's not an airport... that's the Los Angeles Convention Center! If you look closely, you can even see signs pointing to the convention center's various halls!

Back to the movie: Will Ferrell doesn't disappoint. But the real turn comes from Vince Vaughn, who commands most of the film, while Wilson is pretty much an afterthought.
