'Tis the season for awards shows, as the Writers' Guild and Screen Actors' Guild held their annual fetes this weekend. And of course, it's all leading up to Oscar Sunday, March 23. Unlike past years, I just don't feel the urgency to see every nominated best picture. And you just get the feeling that "Chicago" is going to sweep, which might make the show less than exciting. Luckily, Steve Martin is back at host.
Steve's first order of business, however, should be to apologize for "Bringing Down the House." We haven't seen it yet--but apparently a lot of moviegoers did this weekend, despite horrible reviews.
Meanwhile, Maria and I have kept our awards show attendance kitschy. We were in the audience last weekend when TV Land taped its first annual classic TV awards show. Among those seen up close and personal: Bea Arthur (love them "Golden Girls"!), Todd Bridges, Gary Coleman and Conrad Bain (alas, Dana Plato is no longer with us), Bernie Kopell and Gavin MacLoud (both of whom even swiped some "Love Boat" table fixtures), Maureen McCormick and Barry Williams (Bradys still looking young) and Partridge Family members Shirley Jones and David Cassidy. Man, with stars like that, who needs the Oscars? TV Land, Tuesday, 9 p.m.
