Maria and I were toasting our bathroom this evening. Yup, after months of having to shower in the back house -- and having to avoid the room altogether over the past several days -- we've finally reclaimed the room.
The culprit? 1923 sewage pipes that had long ago crumbled or been destroyed by tree roots. Literally days after moving in, we heard the dreaded "glug, glug" while showering. And so began our wild ride.
In the process, we had to remove a tree ($800), send a camera down our pipes ($400) and snake the pipes several times ($500).
We finally started work this week on replacing the strip of damaged clay pipe. $600, the plumber said.
That was Tuesday.
Wednesday, the plumber hit some huge problems. Our pipes were a mess. $1600, he said.
Thursday, the situation got even more grim. Looked like the majority of our sewage pipes would have to be replaced. $2500.
Yikes. Hopefully, at the very least, we can now flush the toilet.
Just the latest chapter in the new home saga. We're particularly bitter toward the sham realty folks who sold us the house... Expercent Real Estate (use this Realtors at your own risk -- what a horrid experience). More details to come.
