Some may whoop it up when a Krispy Kreme rolls into their neighborhood... but I'm anxiously watching the growth of L&L Hawaiian Barbecue.
Long a favorite plate lunch (entree, two scoops rice, one scoop macaroni salad and a fruit punch) joint in Hawaii -- where it's known simply as L&L Drive Inn -- L&L has been expanding rapidly on the mainland, as an AP story in today's Daily News reports.
L&L recently opened its 100th store, with plans to expand to at least 400 within five years. Locally, L&L recently opened locations in Northridge and Pasadena.
We recently stopped by the Northridge location, where Maria picked up a BBQ Chicken Musubi and I ordered the old standby, a Spam Musubi. Freshest musubi I ever ate (granted, most spam musubi have been sitting under a heat lamp for hours at a 7-11 or Zippy's...)
