Rate-A-Restaurant, #50 in a series

Restaurant: Jinky's

Location: 14120 Ventura Blvd. (Sherman Oaks)

Type of restaurant: Brunch

They stipulated: Like most busy L.A. brunch spots, you're gonna have to wait for your table. But customers can at least sip complementary coffee as they sit.

What we ordered: Egg white omelette with (spicy) habanero mango chicken chili (Mike); Italian Egg Sandwich (egg white fritata with zucchini and bacon) (Maria)

High point: Jinky's is one of the few spots that serves Chili My Soul chili -- one of our favorites. The wait wasn't Hugo's-style horrendous, and the service was stellar. Our waitress was one of the best servers we've encountered in a really long time.

Low point: Which was good, considering the huge bug that I found on my omelette. Bleech. On the bright side, Jinky's comped my breakfast and brought me a new entree. The omelette was excellent, although it could have used much more chili. Maria's sandwich was excellent.

Overall impression: Kinda hard to look past that bug -- we were hungry, or else we may have passed on eating altogether. Food was good, but L.A. boasts a lot of good brunch spots.

Chance we will go back: Perhaps if we're meeting others, but traveling all the way to Sherman Oaks for an insect omelette probably isn't in the cards.
