Voters yesterday approved three Glendale measures that will allow developer Rick Caruso to build a version of "The Grove" next to the Galleria, despite a strong challenge by the Galleria's owners.
Memo to Caruso: OK, you've won. Now, here's your first order of business: Drop the lame "Americana at Brand" name. I'm a cynic, so I assume that name was meant to invoke patriotism in the name of getting your outdoor mall approved. ("Are you for or against Americana? Answer the question! ANSWER THE QUESTION, COMMIE!")
Now that Glendale's on board, I'd suggest finding something less cheesy and perhaps more organic to the neighborhood. The "Grove"-esque "Tropico"? (Originally the name for half of what is now Glendale)... "Central Park"? (The new center is bordered on one side by Central Ave.)... even the "Glendale Town Center" sounds better.
We'll get to the Americana's unfortunate mix of proposed restaurants (P.F. Chang? Yack.) next.
