Glendale's Got a New Booster

Adams Square building

Apparently, my media whoring knows no bounds. When the Glendale News-Press came calling -- they'd seen our post on our neighborhood and its status as one of LA Mag's "Ten Best Neighborhoods (You've Never Heard of)" -- I bit.

The News-Press led its Wednesday edition with a story by reporter Josh Kleinbaum on the neighborhood's new status:

Mike Schneider never heard of Adams Hill until he found a house there six months ago. Suzanne Marong discovered the neighborhood 11 years ago, when she saw a listing for a house. Patty Silversher stumbled upon the area 19 years ago when she saw a listing for a house in "The Recycler."

They had never heard of the neighborhood. Now, they all call Adams Hill home. So it seems just right to them that Los Angeles Magazine would rate the area one of "The 10 Best Neighborhoods (You've Never Heard Of)."
The magazine included Adams Hill in a feature in its December issue, which hit newsstands this week.

"The first time we looked at our house, my wife and I turned to each other and we were like, where are we?" Schneider said. "How come we never heard of this neighborhood?"

Yes, I apparently never say no to an interview. (But believe it or not, I do. I once turned down a chance to go on "The O'Reilly Factor." Mainly because the O'Reilly producers wanted me to talk about something that was totally their own interpretation of what was really true. But I digress.)

Kleinbaum also talks to Los Angeles mag exec editor Mary Melton -- who, coincidentally, was the one who wrote about the Birthday Race last year. (Small world, no?)

Alas, Kleinbaum found out that the list is presented alphabetically, so we just happened to be lucky that Adams Hill came first. That's kind of a bummer, but what the hell. There's still a big number "1" listed next to our neighborhood, so you know we'll be pulling out that story when it's time to sell!

(Here's also an August 2003 L.A. Times story that helped convince us this was a cool neighborhood.)
