One year after its launch, alternative outlet "Indie 103.1" (KDLD-FM/KDLE-FM) is finally launching a morning drive show.
But like the rest of its eclectic lineup, the show promises to be quite different from the average morning fare. Hosted by Mighty Mighty Bosstones frontman Dicky Barrett, "The Mighty Morning Show" will air weekdays from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Barrett has already been hosting the daily "Punk Rock Minute," a capsule of music news, for the station. The performer has also served as the announcer for ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
Barrett, of course, isn't the only musician to test his DJ chops on Indie. The Sex Pistols' Steve Jones hosts the daily "Jonesy's Jukebox," while Henry Rollins hosts the weekly Monday night show "Harmony in My Head." Also, ex-Janes Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers member Dave Navarro is part of the Saturday night "Camp Freddy Radio" show, while electronica artists The Crystal Method front "Community Service" on Friday nights.
Apparently Barrett can't bring himself to wake up too early: Unlike most morning drive shows, which start at 5:30 a.m., "The Mighty Morning Show with Dicky Barrett" will air from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. starting Jan. 31.
