Weathering the Storm

Could it be? The return of the sun?

We've been telling Evan for days that Los Angeles isn't usually this wet and dreary. Having been born on Dec. 24, you'll forgive him for not believing us.

"Guys, I've been alive 17 days already," he told us last night. "And there's been no sign of this so-called 'sun' you keep telling me about. Now, quit yammering about this rain and feed me. Oh, and dad, I just peed on your shirt again."

Evan's a little cranky because I subjected him to storm watch coverage all day yesterday. It became addictive, as I couldn't get enough of watching this mobile home collapse into the wash:

According to the Los Angeles Times: The National Weather Service said this morning that more than 17 inches of rain had fallen on downtown Los Angeles since Dec. 26, making it the wettest 15-day period in the city on record. Skies began clearing this morning and were expected to continue lightening through the day. Dry weather was forecast for the rest of the week.

Sweet relief! The rain has hit our house pretty hard -- not as bad as above, of course, or as the mud slides that impacted homes and lives in the canyons and in La Conchita. But the muddy grounds have caused the home to shift, causing some problems -- while water leakage has caused some damage too. Let's hope this is the end of it for a while. I'm sure folks trying to drive down Topanga Canyon road are also praying the rains have stopped:
