Los Angeles: Ad Town

Continuing our chronicle of 30-second TV spots shot in Los Angeles. I'm sure you've seen the latest M&Ms campaign, "Candy Tastes Better in Color." The spot features "Will & Grace" star Megan Mullally singing the virtues of various M&Ms colors. Mullally sings an ode to each color -- until she gets to orange. "Sorry kid, nothing rhymes with orange," she tells the dejected candy.

Maria and I quickly realized that the spot was at least partially shot at the Los Angeles Theater, one of downtown's classic movie palaces.

Here's a screen grab from the ad's opening, shot in the Los Angeles Theater's grand lobby (Mullally and red M&M are on the stairs):

And another screengrab -- shot downstairs, in the theater's powder room (lit green for the purpose of the scene, in which Mullally serenades, yes, a green M&M):

More L.A.-centric ads to come!
