Brother Ray Goes Postal
New L.A. honors for the late musical genius Ray Charles: The Los Angeles post office located at 4960 West Washington Blvd. was officially renamed Wednesday after the singer.
Effective immediately, the station -- located at La Brea and Washington, near Charles' old recording studios -- will now be known as the "Ray Charles Post Office Building".
According to the UPI, the president signed the Ray Charles post office bill into law last week. Rep. Diane E. Watson, D-Calif., first introduced the legislation.
"It is my hope that the Ray Charles Post Office will be only the first of many posthumous honors for this great American treasure," Watson added.
Charles' Washington Boulevard recording studio was recently designated a cultural landmark and will be converted into a museum honoring the musical legend. Charles died June 10, 2004, at age 73.
Separately, I still haven't heard back on my proposal to rename the post office on Verdugo in Glendale after the late Austrian pop star Falco.
