Pat has done an extensive job over at Eating L.A. covering L.A.'s delayed (and I mean delayed!) entry into the cupcake craze.
Among the reviews, she wasn't a huge fan of Beverly Hills' Sprinkles Cupcakes. Part of the problem: Sprinkles charges a pricy $3.25 per cupcake. Ouch.
But someone sent several boxes of Sprinkles cupcakes over to the offices on Thursday, giving us a chance to sample them without slapping down big bucks.
Above, Sprinkles' mocha, coconut, banana and carrot cake cupcakes. The mocha was the best of the bunch -- not too sweet; the carrot cake was also strong (particularly the cream cheese frosting). Less impressive was the banana, while the coconut was decent. Overall though, Sprinkles impresses me with its sheer variety of flavors, and its frostings are the right level of sweet.
