Off the Hook
Tough news for westsiders: Yes, it's true: Now that a 424 "overlay" has been added to the 310, you'll have to start dialing 11 digits soon for every phone call, even in your own area code.
In other words, it will now take at least an additional 1.25 seconds for you to dial 310 numbers. I know, over time that will add up -- as much as an extra 60 seconds a month, perhaps. Time you could be spending doing something else, we understand. You're busy, and this doesn't help.
According to the newspapers, soon we all may be dialing 11 digits as more area code overlays come into being.
On behalf of the remaining seven-digit dialers in the 818 and 323, we salute you, our 11-digit dialing pioneers.
