Rate-A-Restaurant, #71 in a series

Restaurant: Le Petit Beaujolais

Location: 1661 Colorado Blvd. (Eagle Rock)

Type of restaurant: French bakery/cafe

We stipulated: We were originally meeting some friends at Fatty's -- until we discovered that Fatty's was closed for summer vacation. Damn. Maria suggested Le Petit Beaujolais down the street -- and we're glad she did.

What we ordered: It was lunch time, but Maria and I both decided to order off the breakfast menu. And we both opted to get the breakfast panino -- omelette on a toasted roll with your choice of two items, along with mustard and mayo; plus onion potatoes on the side. Inside the panino, Maria picked goat cheese and bacon, while I got spinach and tomato ($8.50)

High point: Pleasant, homey atmosphere... and the paninos were fantastic. Just the right amount of bread (not too soft, not too hard)... and Maria especially loved the potatoes.

Low point: It was a hot day, and with no AC we were sweating quite a bit after a while.

Overall impression: Le Petit Beaujolais is the small sister to Cafe Beaujolais (the more formal dinner restaurant) across the street. Another reason I find myself wanting to visit Eagle Rock more often -- the neighborhood boasts some fine joints (and I'm not just talking Casa Bianca -- OK, I am).

Chance we will go back: Very possibly, probably on a weekend morning. Evan even approved, although he nearly swallowed a Sweet N Low packet.
