No Momma
The L.A. Times has finally put "Momma" out of her misery.
That's right, the two-foot-tall comic strip character -- whose daily punchline consisted of criticizing her ungrateful adult children -- has been pulled from the Times' funny pages.
In its place, the L.A. Times has gone retro: "Calvin and Hobbes" is back, with repeats from the late, lamented strip's early days. According to the paper, the "Calvin" reruns will continue on a trial basis for the next 17 weeks, which brings us to the end of the year.
Now, if the paper would just get rid of the least funny strip in the business (yes, less funny than "Rex Morgan, MD"): "Mallard Fillmore." That shrill strip today boasts a super-fresh Ted Kennedy-is-a-philanderer joke.
