Lucky You Live L.A.
The L.A. Weekly's annual Best of L.A. issue is out... and this year's edition takes a look at the city from an expat perspective. What would you miss most if you left our city? And for those who have already departed, what are they craving (a.k.a., Yuca's tacos, Griffith Park, etc.)?
The issue is divided into five loosely-grouped themes: Memory, Terrain, Mirrors, Destinations and Encounters.
And rather than a simple list of bests, the stories mostly relate every-day anecdotes about Los Angeles and nuggets about the institutions, restaurants, attractions, architecture and people who make our city pretty damn cool.
Highlights include an ode to our bridges; an introduction to the "Joe" behind Trader Joe's; mid-80s memories of celebrating in East L.A. when the Night Stalker was finally caught; Sunday night salsa dancing in the city of Commerce; counting up all of the stereotypical L.A. cliches in the New York Times; the 2:30 am crowd at El Gran Burrito on Santa Monica Blvd.; and one ex-resident's list of eateries she'd do anything to visit again.
