Spring Festival-palooza

Late winter and early spring are shaping up to be a busy one for L.A.-based music showcases, so plan those weekends now:

New to the list, KCRW's annual "A Sounds Ecelctic Evening" has been set for March 25. No word on this year's bands; last year's show included Coldplay, Aqualung and Nellie McKay. The KCRW show used to be a late November/early December affair, but it was moved to the springtime last year.

Meanwhile, ArthurBall -- a spinoff of last fall's Arthurfest -- will take place Feb. 24 to 26 in a series of venues along several blocks of Sunset Boulevard in Echo Park.

According to the L.A. Times, "among those being booked are Queens of the Stone Age leader Josh Homme (who will team with longtime collaborator Chris Goss for a special project), weird-folk harpist Joanna Newsom and ArthurFest returnees Josephine Foster and Brightblack Morning Light. More acts, from headliners to cult favorites, are being secured, and the event will also include film, spoken word and art installations."

Then, of course, there's the biggest one of all, Coachella, which will be held April 29-30 at the Empire Polo Field in Indio. Billboard says Depeche Mode is set to headline; other bands will be announced at a later date.
