One More Look Back

Geoff Berkshire shares his picks for top 10 albums of the year:

10. Employment (Kaiser Chiefs)/You Could Have It So Much Better (Franz Ferdinand)
9. Illinois (Sufjan Stevens)
8. Get Lifted (John Legend)/Late Registration (Kanye West)
7. Brandi Carlile (Brandi Carlile)
6. Z (My Morning Jacket)
5. Silent Alarm (Bloc Party)
4. Thunder, Lightning, Strike (The Go! Team)
3. Get Behind Me Satan (The White Stripes)
2. Twin Cinema (The New Pornographers)

1. Extraordinary Machine (Fiona Apple)

I must sheepishly admit I haven't listened to all of these, most notably Brandi Carlile. But that's the great thing about other people's lists and mixes-- discovering new things yourself. Meanwhile, bonus points to Geoff for putting The Go! Team at No. 4. The concept of The Go! Team is kind of gimmicky -- a hodge-podge of dance, indie rock beats and yes, cheerleading chants. But it works -- and the tracks stick with you. I had "Huddle Formation" in my head for two weeks straight.

You may have missed our post on Franklin Avenue's annual year-end CD, Piece of Cake: Choice Cuts Vol. 4, since I posted it in the middle of the holidays. Like last year, we have a few extra copies lying around for anyone interested in a CD swap. Just e-mail us.

Meanwhile, any of you post a year-end report? Your faves of the past year in film, music, TV, etc,? Let us know, we'll do a roundup.
