Too Much Coverage?

Like you, I was captivated today by news that a small plane had hit a New York apartment high-rise.

Later came word that Yankees pitcher Corey Lidle had died, along with one other person, in the crash. Terrorism was almost immediately ruled out.

A story that definitely should be mentioned on local newscasts, since there would be nationwide interest -- particularly because a baseball star was involved.

But newsradio outlet KNX went one step further, and pre-empted all of its local news in order to carry the feed out of New York all-news sister station WCBS.

Is that too much? Once word came out that it wasn't a terrorist attack, but just a tragic accident, and that just two people died... here in L.A., shouldn't it be covered as another news story (albeit, the lead one)?

After all, I doubt WCBS dropped its regular programming and went wall-to-wall with a feed from KNX after the Santa Monica Farmers Market tragedy, in which TEN people died... or even after the Metrolink train disaster in Glendale, in which 11 were killed.

So lemme ask you... do you think it made sense for KNX to drop all of its Southern California news and air WCBS' feed for several hours?
