Franklin Avenue reader Joshua notes all of our recent coverage about Los Angeles urban hikes, and writes in to share his own major city walk:
In December of 2005, my friend Tom, Juan, and I were gathered at Juan's then-residence on the Torrance side of the Palos Verdes peninsula. We had all hiked in the wilderness together many times before, but after a few drinks, another idea struck us: what if we completed our longest hike not in the wilderness, but across the city/county itself?
The idea of combining our mutual interest in walking and urban planning was too great so we vowed to walk from Juan's house to my house. We waited until the solstice (maximum daylight) and walked it in June. The map is a little rough and I may have forgotten some of our exact turns through all the hobbling.
Unfortunately, Juan was mired in the early stages of urban planning school at UCLA and I was traveling when you guys walked the length of Wilshire, which was actually next on our urban hike docket. We're glad to hear it was enjoyable.
It's a trend!
