The Bridges of Los Angeles City

If that amazing photo of the 6th Street bridge by Dave Bullock doesn't inspire you to hike the bridges of Los Angeles' downtown, then nothing will.

You'll get a chance this Sunday to do just that.

Shannon from Sha in LA is organizing a walk through several of downtown's bridges. We can't make it, alas, but it sounds pretty cool. Here's her itinerary:

Starting at the strike of noon from the backside of Union Station, Patsouras Plaza to be exact, the route will follow a meandering path on major streets on both sides of the river and include the following bridges: Cesar Chavez, 1st Street, 4th Street, 6th Street, 7th Street and Olympic.

We will hopefully end the walk at Royal Claytons for nourishment and refreshing beverages, barring any unforeseen closures due to filming. Final transportation back to the original starting point will be determined on an individual basis. A complete route map can be viewed here (ignore the red dots)…and although it may look confusing, in real life it makes much more sense. The entire walk is about 7 miles, give or take 1/10th of a mile.

Speaking of Los Angeles Bridges, leave it to the L.A. City Nerd to share these rather, well, nerdy facts:

There are 533 bridges within City limits.

These bridges are comprised of:
424 vehicular bridges
67 pedestrian bridges
19 railroad bridges
18 tunnels
5 miscellaneous bridges

At his/her site, the L.A. City Nerd asks you to nominate your favorite city bridge. Of course, here at Franklin Avenue, the answer is easy:

Shakespeare Bridge, in Los Feliz on Franklin Avenue, of course!
