Questionable Democracy in Glendale

It's election day in Glendale, as voters trickled in to polling stations to fill two open slots on the City Council, as well as board of education and community college positions.

I won't bore you with my picks, but I do wonder if something fishy is going on in our fair little 'burb. For weeks on end, we've received mailers from various candidates that included applications for absentee ballots. Voters would mail them in to the campaigns -- who then would send them to the City Clerk.

Today at my polling station, I overheard a woman who showed up to vote. One problem: The rolls said that she had received an absentee ballot.

"Did you mail it in?" the polling station volunteer asked.

"No, someone came by and picked it up," the pretty much clueless woman responded.

Hmm... that's obviously a no-no. And this confused woman wasn't so sure that she had voted. Did this happen all over town? That's a very good question.
