Ten Years of "Volcano"
Curbed L.A. points to a Flickr set of pics, posted by SantaPaul (including the one above), taken from the miniature Wilshire Blvd. constructed in Redondo Beach for the film "Volcano."
For L.A. geography and planning buffs, it doesn't get much better than "Volcano." In case you forgot, the movie revolves around the sudden emergence of a volcano... in the La Brea Tar Pits.
"Volcano" to me is most memorable for the creative license taken by the filmmakers -- such as the fake subway stop being built next to the Beverly Center, as well as an imaginary condo tower next to the mall -- two points that were crucial to the whole plot of the movie. (Tommy Lee Jones blows up the condo to change the direction of the lava flowing straight toward the Beverly Center in those subway tunnels, still under construction. Maybe the "Volcano" producers should have loaned their imaginary MTA map to the real MTA after it was all done.)
