In-N-Out Coming to NYC? You Wish, Gothamites!

A few days ago, Gawker spread the rumor (by way of Corey H, who scanned the magazine piece above) that In-N-Out Burger was going to take a stab at the New York market:

Plutocrat magazine Departures recently ran a story on burgers in which it is written "Los Angeles burger haven In-N-Out is rumored to be planning a New York debut, but burgers have already taken the city by storm." Never has an independent introductory clause packed such a punch.

I'll believe it when I see it. In-N-Out has deliberately kept its growth slowly paced to California and the southwest... and even though an internal battle over whether the company should expand faster was won by the expansionist crowd, New York is so far away from In-N-Out's base of operations that it seems unlikely.

Of course, it's amusing that New York keeps going ga-ga over West Coast transplants: Trader Joe's, Pinkberry, etc. What was the last New York import that really set Los Angeles ablaze?
