L.A.'s Growing Bilingual Radio Scene
Spanish Top 40 Super Estrella 107.1 KSSE has started adding some English hits into the mix.
Not only does it make sense to broaden its audience (most of whom listen to both English and Spanish songs), but it's also a reminder that in much of the world, English-language songs are already mixed in with music in the local language.
With the wider range, KSSE may now start going after a chunk of KIIS-FM's audience (although KSSE attracts a fraction of KIIS' aud, so any big impact is unlikely).
A post on Radio-Info gives a rundown of English language songs on the air there:Fergie "Big Girls Don't Cry", Bob Sinclair "World Hold On" (Dance Hit), Chris Brown "Run It", Rihanna "Umbrella," Daft Punk "One More Time," Black Eyed Peas "Don't Phunk With My Heart", Nelly Furtado "Say It Right," Sean Kingston "Beauitful Girls"and Usher "Yeah."
KXOL "Latino 96.3" remains the area's bigger bilingual station, playing a mix of reggaeton and hip-hop, along with English speaking advertisements and DJs.
