Rating the New Glendale Target
The first official day of Target's new Glendale Galleria store... and we were there. (If we weren't already officially domesticated, that seals the deal.) In contrast to the LAist report last week filed after the store's soft launch -- which didn't exactly draw the crowds on a weeknight -- by the 29th, the store was packed -- perhaps even too packed.
The Glendale Galleria Target is three floors -- the first three-story Target in the world -- but doesn't have much more space than your average location. As a matter of fact, it may be smaller than most Target Greatlands. But there's plenty of room for merchandise -- so much that in some cases, products are repeated. The Archer Farms/Market Place items that are found incorporated in the food sections, for example, can also be found in two rows devoted to Target's store brand food.
A couple of observations:
-- I've never seen cleaner shopping carts in my life. So this is what carts are like before they quickly get dirty and sticky, with a broken wheel.
-- Day one, and the second floor men's bathroom was already busted. The toilet didn't flush, and the hand dryer barely blew out air.
-- Archer Farms pancake mix! Earlier this year, you could find it at any Target... but for some reason, they took it out of stores. It's a bit pricy at $3.99, but it makes excellent pancakes.
-- It's the Galleria. Parking's a bitch. That's reason right there to stick with the Eagle Rock Target.
Now, if this had been a Super Target, like the Inland Empire just got, then we would have been crapping our pants (well, maybe just me) in excitement.
