Rate-A-Restaurant, #147 in a series
Restaurant: Millie's
Location: 3524 W Sunset Blvd (Silver Lake)
Type of restaurant: Brunch
They stipulated: Leave your cell phone at home or in the car -- yakking on one is forbidden. Also, Millie's closes at 4 -- but as commenters around the web note, that's a loose close time; get there earlier if you wanna be fed.
We stipulated: We were looking for a brunch spot in order to meet our Silver Lake pals and Lake Hollywood pals... and because we had to meet rather early, Millie's was a good solution.
What we ordered: Breakfast burrito, $7.50 (with scrambled eggs, black beans, cheese, veggies, salsa and sour cream); and a spinach, sundried tomato and feta omelette, $8.50.
High point: Even as a crowd formed, waiting for a table, we didn't feel rushed. Food was exactly what you'd expect, and reasonably priced.
Low point: Service was spotty at times, and the bathroom rather cramped.
Overall impression: Millie's has been serving the hungry (and frequently hung over) Silver Lake masses for decades -- and it continues to be a reliable spot to grab the brunch basics. There wasn't anything special about our food, but I partly chalk that up to ordering pretty basic items.
Chance we will go back:: Not likely by ourselves, but we're more than willing to meet up with others there.
