Eagle Rocks This Past Saturday
Nevermind this weekend's big L.A. Weekly Detour Music Festival; we took advantage Saturday evening of the free entry to the Eagle Rock Music Festival, along with several thousand others.
The well-attended fest was also pretty well organized, with shuttle buses running to and from the Eagle Rock Plaza mall, making parking surprisingly easy -- a remarkable feat, given the closure of Colorado between Eagle Rock Blvd. and Argus.
Performances were everywhere -- from a stage with DJs, hip-hop, funk and soul (Evan's favorite stage, by the way); to folk and acoustic at Swork, rock and punk outside Panang and percussion outside the old Eagle Rock city hall. A zydeco group performed on the second floor balcony of the Welcome Inn motel; rock groups played in front of the American Tire Depot; and much more.
We didn't get a chance to see Under the Influence of Giants at the main stage, but we did catch Mia Doi Todd at the Women's 20th Century Club. Other highlights included:
Singer Jessica Fichot belting out French songs at the world stage (above)...
... a wide variety of displays, including booths, hula hoop performers, and large art displays (above)...
... and food from vendors such as Glendale's Minx, which was selling a pair of sliders plus garlic fries for $5.
Eagle Rock's Center for the Arts and Councilman Jose Huizar (who made sure his name was everywhere) sponsored the annual event.
