Pre-Black Friday Calm at the Northridge Circuit City
Perhaps someone should have seen this coming.
We passed by the Northridge branch of Circuit City on Thanksgiving evening, on a unsuccessful quest to find an open Starbucks or Coffee Bean. What we saw was this: Yellow "caution" tape wrapped around the building, with this note:
Yep, per Northridge mall security, no lining up before 3. Instead, early birds started camping out on a nearby sidewalk -- close by, but still far away that come 3 a.m., the honor system was going to have to be in place. Otherwise, it was gonna be every man for himself.
Apparently, when we're talking about cheap-o big screen TVs, it's every man for himself. According to the L.A. Times, police had to be called in to prevent a riot. And although the paper didn't mention why, I can guess what happened: A few quick-footed bargain hunters managed to probably cut in front of some of the shoppers who had passed up turkey and stuffing to be in line for around a day. And they weren't going to let that happen without a fight.
I'll say it again: My door bustin' "Black Friday" days are over. I eventually hit Target (twice!) and Circuit City (twice!) on Friday.. but only after breakfast.
