Retro Friday: What Ever Happened to Christine Lund?

It's been nearly ten years since Christine Lund left the L.A. airwaves for a second time, signing off from KABC in 1998. Since then, according to her Wikipedia entry, she has been running a general store in a tiny, remote Alaskan town.

Lund has been cited as the inspiration for the line "the bubble-headed bleach blonde who comes on at five" in Don Henley's song "Dirty Laundry"; she's also rumored to be an inspiration for Christina Applegate's character in "Anchorman." She originally left KABC in 1986 to spend more time with her family, but was lured back to the anchor desk in 1990; she then left for good in 1998.

I especially like the quick clip above because it uses the old, famous expression "Film at 11" -- a term that died at the end of the 1970s, when everyone went to videotape.

Speaking of videotape, here's another fun find: A late 1970s promotion from Sony, explaining the wonder of Betamax. Check out the video camera with seperate shoulder-strap video player (something I remember well, as my dad bought a VHS version in 1981).
