The anticipation is unbearable. We've been promised the most rain in a decade this weekend:
Southland residents braced for a wet weekend as rain made its way down from Northern California and was set to arrive in Los Angeles about midnight, setting the stage for a series of major rainstorms that could unleash as much as 5 inches of rain in Los Angeles and 10 inches in the mountains through Sunday.
"There's no way out. This is a big low-pressure system with a lot of moisture.... It definitely has us in its sight," said climatologist Bill Patzert.
I can't take it anymore! Just pour, already!
Seriously, I dread the rain here. And not because of crazy drivers or muddy shoes. As the owner of an old home (1923, to be exact), I constantly worry over what kind of damage the rain will cause. Will the water seeping under the house further weaken the home's foundation? What's more, water usually seeps under our garage door; a downpour just means having to throw away more damaged stuff in the garage.
Yeah, I know, we need the rain, etc. But too much all at once won't solve our drought problem, but could be pretty damaging, especially where fire-scorched earth could lead to mudslides.
So yes, I'm bracing for a stressful weekend, as I sit around obsessing over ways the rain will cause a bigger drain on my wallet.
UPDATE: So, where is it? The L.A. Times says the storm stalled on the Central Coast overnight, but it's coming, honest. Love the headline: "Storm running late, but still huge." OK, OK, we get it. We're all gonna melt.
