Rate-A-Restaurant #176: Novo Restaurant
Restaurant: Novo Restaurant
Location: 726 Higuera St. (San Luis Obispo)
Type of restaurant: Tapas, Fusion
They stipulated: Most of the dining is on the patio behind the restaurant, along the San Luis Obispo creek.

We stipulated: After plopping down our bags at the hotel in Morro Bay, and walking down to the water, we were hungry. We decided to drive back down to San Luis Obispo and check out the downtown. When we found Novo, as suggested by one of you, we looked at the menu and decided to grab a table.

What we ordered: Malaysian Chicken and Toasted Coconut ("this is a rich & spicy coconut milk curry for those who like intense flavors," $17.50); kid burger ($6.95); and special ono with Chinese black rice and stir fry vegetables ($21.00).

High point: What a perfect spot to dine on a mild summer evening. San Luis Obispo's creek runs straight through town, and it adds a nice touch of nature to the experience. As for the food, the ono was nice, but the curry was fantastic.
Low point: Service was slow; our server had to check with the kitchen several times. The Kid Formerly Known as Blogger Toddler got antsy; luckily, there was plenty to see around the restaurant, as we took turns walking him around the block.
Overall impression: It's a slightly confused restaurant -- is it tapas? Brazilian? Asian fusion? But the food is solid, and the location great. Not a bad find for a town as small as San Luis Obispo.
