Young Chuck Henry's Hawaii Days
Here's a cool find for geeky fans of local TV: A pic from the Honolulu ABC affiliate in 1970 (then known as KHVH-TV, now KITV) featuring young anchors Chuck Henry and Ken Kashiwahara.
Yep, *that* Chuck Henry, now KNBC's 11 p.m. co-anchor. Before his long run reporting, anchoring and watching his news truck get engulfed by flames in Southern California, Henry was an anchor in the islands.
And Kashiwahara, of course, had a successful run at ABC News. KHVH was quite a hotbed for folks who went on to successful careers: Sportscaster Al Michaels anchored the KHVH newscast alongside Henry and Kashiwahara.
Kashiwahara and Henry later reunited here in Los Angeles, co-anchoring KABC-TV's weekend news in 1972. Read more about Kashiwahara's interesting career in this Honolulu Star- Bulletin profile from earlier this year.
